Molding & Casting Workshop

May 2010

Victoria Lucas, artist and curator, hosted a weekend's intensive workshop exploring different approaches to moulding and casting.

Workshop break

It was one of the warmest couple of days of the year so far and there was, for someone with no previous experience, a lot to get through. However, Victoria was approachable, patient, unhurried and interested in everyone's efforts which created a relaxed friendly take-your-time atmosphere.

Simpler immediate methods of making through to elaborate construction of multipart moulds were explored. Everyone had the opportunity to see for themselves what it was possible to produce. As with anything unfamiliar and new, not everything came out as expected – this is the best kind of learning. Illustrated here are two of the things which surprised because they turned out so well in the hands of someone with no previous experience.
