Painter-printmaker: Contemporary Fine Artist

Current research:

Studio practice

17 February 2008  |  R11.7

Medium:

Lynne works in two contrasting mediums – paint, currently oil paint, though she has extensive experience using acrylic; and print, currently relief print.

Paint: Frank Auerbach's assertion that "The truth is something that hasn't been captured by painting yet" (Tusa, 2003) illuminates why a medium otherwise declared dead, continually reinstates itself at the heart of Lynne's art practice.

Subject:

Detail of pencil and charcoal sketch study, showing old workings on the North York Moors

Lynne is exploring images of landscape. Direct honest, seemingly simple, deceptively naive – the paintings and relief prints are an exploration of landscape as it is in our perception and imagination. Landscape as we 'feel' it to be.

Portraiture

Lynne's interest in human experience has historically expressed itself through her portraits.

Though portraits do not form part of her plans at this time, her interest in human perception took on a new and serious guise during a recent Masters in Contemporary Fine Art Practice – which Lynne is currently reflecting upon.
